Oz Lotto Offers Plunder From Down Under

Oz Lotto is Australia’s very first lottery game. It began in 1994 and in its earliest avatar, was based on pure luck. All other existing lotteries were betting games based on the outcomes of real life events. Predominant among them was the Soccer Polls run by Tattersalls. Of course, there’s no keeping a good idea from spreading like wildfire and soon there was Powerball in 1996 and the Saturday Lotto (held in New South Wales) in 2000.

Oz Lotto Mechanism

Based on the drawing of numbers, the Oz Lotto has 45 balls that are rolled in a barrel and seven winning numbers and two supplementary numbers are drawn from the barrel. From this, there are seven divisions of prizes. For example, to win the first division, you need to draw seven winning numbers from the 45 balls. However, the number of games that can be played on one lottery ticket is limited to one.

The draws are broadcast on television on Tuesdays. To take part in the lottery, one must either play online with the help of a computer that randomly selects seven numbers for each game or with a coupon that gives more choice in selecting numbers. Any resident of Australia can purchase a ticket with fifteen game boards on it. For people who are not residents of Australia, they can buy their tickets online. Of course, they would have to keep an eye out for the Oz Lotto results online as well.

Sometimes players group together to form a syndicate that plays collectively and agrees to share the winnings among themselves. Syndicates are not limited by geographical distance and can be a network of players spread over thousands of kilometers. Optionally you can play with what is known as a field entry. Field entries are limited in selection to just five or six numbers and the remaining numbers are added from winning Oz Lotto results. Not bad, considering that the Oz Lotto jackpot has crossed AU$90 million; a success riding largely on the strength of Oz Lotto’s online players.

The amount of money that gets put up as prizes is based on ticket purchases. However, the first division prize is guaranteed never to be less than AU$1 million. In case of no one winning the jackpot, the money is simply rolled over to the next draw. Up to a total of 25 rollovers are permitted. With this system, it’s no wonder that the prize money usually stays over the AU$ 30 million mark. The prizes are not taxable in Australia. However, in other countries they are subject to the law of the land.
